Gobernador Bories

The 2,332 Ton 1882 Iron Steamer Gobernador Bories lies in 16m of water in Burra Sound. Sunk as a blockship in 1915 to stop unwanted visitors to Scapaflow coming through Burra Sound. Blockships where the only way to close the sound off as fierce currents race though every day making anti-submarine netting and booms impractical. These same currents wash away the silt and give the divers the best viz in Scapaflow often in excess of 25m. The local wrasse are more than friendly and harass the divers for food!

The diving takes place at slack water, getting in and down the shot line just as it's getting ready to stop gives you maximum bottom time. Once the tide starts to run its time to leave, the current gets fierce with speeds of 5 Knots or more!
